| The Major US Tennis Organizations | |
The Web sites of the major tennis organizations offer much more than the dull bureaucracy that one might expect. They are often among the best resources for many types of information.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) membership consists primarily of college coaches from all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and junior and community colleges. Its site offers news, including match results from college tournaments, rankings, schedules, and searchable player profiles. In the rules section you'll find some interesting distinctions, such as the "no service lets" rule that applies only to men's Division I.
The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is the world's oldest and largest association of tennis teaching pros. Its site includes tennis tips, application and benefit information, excerpts from its professional magazine, info on its courses, a newswire, and a handicapping system. The USPTA also runs adult leagues, special free clinics, and Little Tennis for ages 3-10.
The Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) has over 10,000 members, predominantly teaching pros, in 120 countries. The information on its site is intended mostly for teaching pros and those interested in entering the profession. The PTR offers teachers' workshops, exclusive instructional materials, Tennis Pro Magazine, and numerous other member benefits. It also hosts a major wheelchair tournament.
The United States Racquet Stringers Association (USRSA) has a membership of 7000 racquet technicians worldwide. Members use the site to access information on certification, benefits, workshops, stringing machines, racquet care, frame and string facts, and string performance. A very limited selection of free information is available to non-members.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is deeply involved in every aspect of US tennis, from recreational leagues through junior and amateur tournaments, to pro events including the US Open. Its site also features a kids' magazine, links to each geographic section, and rankings.
