One Frame Before Contact

one frame before contact(C)2005 Jeff Cooper licensed to About.com, Inc.
One video frame (1/30 second) before contact:
  • Racquet has moved three feet straight forward from low point of backswing: swing starts with forward momentum to generate power
  • Racquet and ball will meet one foot higher in next frame: this upward movement just before contact generates topspin
  • Weight has transferred almost entirely onto front foot, allowing rear foot to slide forward during swing
