Where should I aim aggressive returns?

By Jeff Cooper, About.com

Question: Where should I aim aggressive returns?
Answer: If you're going for a clean winner, you have four main choices. Mix your choices, but on key points, usually attack the opponent's weaker side.
  1. Deep, down the line.
  2. Deep and hard, crosscourt.
  3. Sharply crosscourt, toward the corner of the service box, with more topspin and somewhat less power.
  4. Drop shot.
If you're looking to come to net behind your return, it's usually best to approach down the line so that you'll be closer to the center of the range of angles your opponent might hit in trying to pass you.
